Notice: We regret to inform you that Dr. Palmen is no longer seeing patients, and the Palmen Center for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy has ceased operations. Thank you for your understanding.
The Palmen Center for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy was the private psychiatric practice of Dr. Michael A. Palmen, M.D. The practice was dedicated to providing highly confidential, individualized, comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment in a private setting. Dr. Palmen personally provided all aspects of psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, including medication and psychotherapy. This traditional practice of psychiatry allowed for the most integrated treatment possible.
Dr. Palmen had over 30 years of experience in the practice of psychiatry. He was an emeritus faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at the Mayo Clinic, where he practiced for over 20 years, and he was board-certified in psychiatry and addiction medicine. He specialized in providing integrated psychotherapy and medication treatment, when necessary, for all psychiatric conditions. Dr. Palmen had a particular interest in helping people who suffer from complicated co-occurring disorders including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, addiction disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, and/or post-traumatic stress disorder, and people with concurrent psychiatric disorders and medical illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Palmen had longstanding expertise in treating healthcare professionals, as well as people in a wide range of other occupations such as the trades, engineering, teaching, science, business, law, and graduate and undergraduate students. He was able to provide treatment to adults and, selectively, to older adolescent patients.
Dr. Palmen was also available for consultation in collaboration with other healthcare practitioners, such as psychologists and social workers, whose patients could benefit from a psychiatric perspective.
