During the COVID-19 pandemic, all evaluations and consultations will be conducted by online video conference.

The Palmen Center for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy is the private psychiatric practice of Dr. Michael A. Palmen, M.D. The practice is dedicated to providing highly confidential, individualized, comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment in a private setting. Dr. Palmen personally provides all aspects of psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, including medication and psychotherapy. This traditional practice of psychiatry allows for the most integrated treatment possible.

Dr. Palmen has over 30 years of experience in the practice of psychiatry. He is an emeritus faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at the Mayo Clinic, where he practiced for over 20 years, and he is board-certified in psychiatry and addiction medicine. He specializes in providing integrated psychotherapy and medication treatment, when necessary, for all psychiatric conditions. Dr. Palmen has a particular interest in helping people who suffer from complicated co-occurring disorders including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, addiction disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, and/or post-traumatic stress disorder, and people with concurrent psychiatric disorders and medical illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, or cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Palmen has longstanding expertise in treating healthcare professionals, as well as people in a wide range of other occupations such as the trades, engineering, teaching, science, business, law, and graduate and undergraduate students. He is able to provide treatment to adults and, selectively, to older adolescent patients.

Dr. Palmen is also available for consultation in collaboration with other healthcare practitioners, such as psychologists and social workers, whose patients could benefit from a psychiatric perspective.
